Jeep Van Wormer Runner-Up in Merritt Special; Readies for Pair of Summer Nationals Tilts

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) The Iron Motorsports team returned to racing competition over the August 7-8 weekend at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Michigan. The annual running of the 'Dan Salay Memorial Wood Tic' event took center stage at the Wolverine State oval and a $10,000 payday was on the line. In the qualifying session for the 34 competitors last Friday night, Jeep Van Wormer started off his weekend by knocking down the second fastest lap in his group.

Following a third place effort in his heat race, Jeep wound up third once again in Friday's qualifying feature. After rolling off from the inside of the second row in the 75-lap headliner on Saturday evening, the Pinconning, Michigan ace eyed his first win of 2020 in only his sixth event. Jeep stayed towards the front of the field throughout the contest, made a late charge and bid for the win, and eventually settled for an impressive runner-up performance behind only race winner Travis Stemler! Complete results from the unsanctioned 'Dan Salay Memorial Wood Tic' showdown can be accessed online at www.merrittspeedwaymi.com.

The #55 team plans to take the August 14-15 weekend off from any type of racing action, but they have two more special events on their racing calendar next week when the DIRTcar Summer Nationals invades the state of Michigan. With work obligations and other commitments keeping Jeep busy, he will only be able to enter two of the four “Hell Tour” battles in his home state. He plans to unload his potent XR1 Rocket Chassis on Thursday, August 20 at Thunderbird Raceway in Muskegon, Michigan and on Saturday, August 22 back at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Michigan. A $5,000 winner’s check will be up for grabs at Thunderbird, while Merritt will boast a $10,000 paycheck for the series finale.
