Jimmy Mars Knocks Down Podium Effort in $50,000 USA Nationals!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 team competed in one of their favorite events of the season from August 6-8, as the 33rd edition of the 'USA Nationals' was held at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Last Thursday night in the $6,000 to win World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series weekend lid lifter, Jimmy stopped the clock tenth fastest in Group B during qualifying before placing fifth in his stacked heat race. After grabbing the third and final transfer spot through his consolation race, Jimmy was an early retiree in the 30-lap feature and was eventually paid for a twenty-fifth place showing.

At Cedar Lake on Friday evening, a double set of qualifying heat races were held to help determine the line-ups for Saturday's crown jewel headliner, which once again boasted a whopping $50,000 paycheck. Jimmy finished fifth in his first heat race of the night, while he wound up a close second in his final prelim. After amassing the ninth most passing points in preliminary action, the Menomonie, Wisconsin ace rolled off from the inside of the fifth row in Saturday's 100-lap 'USA Nationals.' Gunning for his third race title, Jimmy was able to blast past six competitors during the extra-distance affair to garner an impressive third place podium effort behind only race winner Brandon Overton and runner-up Rick Eckert!

Mars Racing also entered the pair of CLS Late Model shows held over the busy 'USA Nationals' weekend. Jimmy placed second in his heat race on Friday night prior to moving past four competitors during the $2,500 to win main event to finish fourth behind only race winner Jesse Glenz, James Giossi, and A.J. Diemel. On Saturday evening in a similar $2,500 to win program for the local Late Models, Jimmy ran fourth in his heat race, but later scratched for the remainder of the event to put his sole focus and effort on the Super Late Model grand finale. Complete results from the entire weekend can be located online at www.cedarlakespeedway.com.

Following the hectic last couple of weeks, the #28 team will enjoy the August 14-15 weekend away from the racetrack and take a much needed weekend off. Jimmy plans to jump right back into action over the August 21-22 weekend; however, as a pair of $5,000 to win Late Model specials are planned at area tracks. On Friday night, the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin will play host to the ‘Dairyland Showdown,’ while Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin will host a similar show to round out the weekend on Saturday evening.
