R.J. Conley Reaches Victory Lane for First Time in 2020 in Dan Reno Memorial!

(WHEELERSBURG, OHIO) R.J. Conley picked up his first feature win of the 2020 campaign on Saturday evening, August 29 in the 12th edition of the 'Dan Reno Memorial' at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio! R.J. posted the third quickest time overall during the Super Late Model qualifying session before securing a heat race triumph. After starting the 30-lap main event from the outside of the front row, R.J. officially led each and every lap of the unsanctioned contest and recorded the $3,022 victory ahead of Jared Hawkins, Dave Hornikel, Brandon Francis, and Todd Brennan!

Delmas Conley, the patriarch of the racing Conley family, unloaded his famed #71 machine on Saturday night at the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. A weekly Super Late Model program was held at PRP and a $2,000 winner's check was up for grabs. Delmas clicked off the ninth fastest time overall during qualifying before running second in heat race action. The Wheelersburg, Ohio Hall of Famer then rolled off from the inside of the second row in the A-Main, but was involved in an early incident and eventually retired from the race in the eighteenth finishing position. Complete results from both Buckeye State ovals can be viewed online at www.atomicspeedway.net and www.portsraceway.com.

“It’s good to get back into victory lane again – it had been awhile,” said R.J. this week after making only his eighth feature start of the 2020 season. “Our car has been a lot better the past couple of weeks by just going back to stuff we know that works. This sport is so tough right now and you’re always trying to stay at the cutting edge of things, but sometimes you have to go back to what you know works on these cars. I’m looking forward to the upcoming Labor Day weekend; hopefully our car is just as fast when the bigger money is on the line!”

The Labor Day holiday weekend is always a big one in the southern Ohio area and this year is no exception. Things will kick off for Conley Motorsports, Inc. (CMI) on Saturday, September 5 at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will roll into PRP on Saturday to preside over the annual running of the ‘Bob Miller Memorial River Days Rumble 50.’ Delmas, Rod, and R.J. Conley are all slated to invade the nearby oval to vie for the $12,000 top prize.

On Sunday, September 6, the CMI teams will split up, as Delmas is scheduled to tackle Beckley Motorsports Park in Beckley, West Virginia, while his sons Rod and R.J. will head to Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio. Delmas, who enjoyed a myriad of success at Beckley in the distant past, will compete for the $15,000 payday in the unsanctioned ‘Beckley USA 100.’ Rod and R.J., on the other hand, will battle for the $6,700 windfall in another unsanctioned contest at Atomic. More information on these Labor Day weekend races can be accessed online at www.portsraceway.com, www.atomicspeedway.net, and the Beckley Motorsports Park Facebook page.
