Anytime they show a flashback race there are usually less than a handful of cars on the lead lap.

When you raced......didnt you wanna win by several laps, or do you prefer gimmicks to keep the competition close?

BBQ, it didn't happen nearly as often as some would have you believe.

Some would also have you believe that every year prior to the RJ Reynolds tobacco co. getting involved (Winston Cup) there were a bunch of seasons consisting of 60 or more Grand National races on the schedule. In reality there was only 1.

To some people the "modern era" NASCAR racing is all that counts, which is bull$hit! NASCAR is slowly coming to the conclusion that many fans want to see racing like it was back in the '60's & early '70's and this dirt race proves it.

I wanted to have close tough exciting competition, that generally came about because of rules...

I helped my competitors from day 1 of my racing career so they could be closer and or beat me. It felt great to finish 3rd or 4th and have the only cars in front of me be running my tech and or set up etc....

I left washington state where I was pavement racing because I was dominating in the class I could afford and moved to Iowa to start over and build a dirt car and race dirt. Guessing Im not the norm.

I quit racing after the 2015 season and still give tech to guys and get texts about wins on my rearends and or set up help regularly.

I built my first car because a guy had won every race all year in the hobby stock division. trophy dash, heat race, main event about 20 nights... I had just bought a house so I had a garage, I was 23 years old and in the military so making about 1100 a month. I walked the pits some for the last half of the season and felt like I could be the one to break that streak, straight out of the stands. I built a used nova, towed with a tow dolly and finished top 3 my first two races and won the 3rd.

From that day on I shared what I knew to help everyone. I was already seeing people come in spend tons of money, not have fun and leave in my first year.

6-7 years later I was in the sportsman class and won every race I finished and would regularly lap to 2nd or 3rd, all that did was hurt car count and have them keep stacking weight on my car....

There's probably typos. It was a lot to do by hand. All information is from racing-reference.info. Pick a year.

The 1970 sand lapper 200 in Columbia was won by Bobby Isaac over the king .....they were on the same lap.

Just fact checked that one first because I'm pretty sure I was actually at that race with my dad and knew the king didn't finish a lap down.....but I'm older now and just wanted to be sure I remembered correctly.

You know there is this thing called Google , right?

I think you misread my post. I wrote two cars on the lead lap. Third was one lap down.

Is 1984 now suddenly in the 60s and early 70s?

That should be the goal of every racer.......dominate the class within the rules. Unfortunately, tracks want to penalize racers for building better mouse traps!

    You said pick a year.........I picked 1984.

Sux when folks use your own strategy against you doesn't it? You know? Picking a small something out of a sentence and then expounding on it to fit a narrative?
