Austin Horton Scores NASCAR Weekend Opener at Talladega
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Doubleheader Next

NEWNAN, Ga. (10/07/20) – Austin Horton wheeled the Franklin Enterprises No. 16 Super K Express/ Orr’s Trucking/ Rocket Chassis/ Clements Racing Engines Super Late Model to his fifth win of the season Friday.

Horton claimed the opening round of the annual NASCAR weekend at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala. for a $2,000 payday.

“We had a great weekend. Was able to get the win on Friday and finish second on Saturday. It was a very special moment to have my son with me in Victory Lane on Friday night,” said Horton.

“Would have like to of had some more laps on Saturday to see if we had a chance for the lead,” he added. “We just got behind in qualifying. We’ll settle for second and head to the next one. Thank you to everyone who helps me do what I love and supports me at the track. Also, a big thank you to Ricky Payton for loaning me a trailer so I could race this weekend.”

In a field of 26 cars, Austin topped the speed charts in time trials, which positioned him on the pole for the opening night feature. Dominating the 30-lap affair, Horton cruised to his fifth win of the season over Todd Morrow, Cruz Skinner, Jake Knowles, and Joseph Joiner. Winning by more than a three-second margin, Austin pocketed a $2,000 payday.

The following night for the B.J. Parker Memorial, Austin got behind the eight ball in qualifying, locking him into the 17th-starting position for the $3,000-to-win finale. Wheeling his way into a podium position, Horton marched forward 15 spots to place second behind Jake Knowles. Mark Page, Dalton Cook, and Todd Morrow completed the Top-5 finishers.

The upcoming weekend – October 10-11 – will see Austin compete in a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events. On Saturday the action opens at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga. with the $12,000-to-win Dixie Shootout. The team rolls to Rome (Ga.) Speedway on Sunday for the $10,000-to-win Rome Showdown.
