Buying a race car question.
I have always wondered......When a driver goes to buy a chassis, how is it all worked out. Every builder has their own secrets and beliefs about how a chassis is built to go the fastest, right? So if a driver goes to make a purchase how do they know what they are buying and how it works? Surely a builder is not going to show all their research and development to just everyone. And if that is true, then what prompts a driver to buy a certain chassis? Or is it that if a driver is seriously interested in a certain chassis that the builder will show them their car.

It's not about all the "secrets" of a chassis builder. Drivers will go with whoever they think will give them good support and information and what chassis compliments their driving style. Most guys when they switch chassis will start just like anyone else, with the baseline setup and then fine tune or adjust to their preference from there. You could probably throw a blanket over the setups of the top 5 builders anyway in regards to springs, shocks, etc. It's not black magic.

Pretty good info here. We would change stuff after that depending on what shock package or bar angles we changed, with that being said the things we changed always went back to baseline before we sold it.

Everybody gets the same chassis right? Isn't it the rest of thes stuff that goes on it that makes it fast?What's a new XR1 chassis sell for? How about a whole car from Rocket?

We bought a brand new Rayburn in November of 2003. He gave us a three day, eight hour per day classroom course on maintenance and setups and such. The classroom was filled, too. No secrets.

the secret is they will not drive themselves the most important thing on a racecar is the DRIVER !!!!!!!!!

And every driver out there is different. You could take rocket 1 or team zero and have every top slm driver out there time trail. The results would be so far off. It's what the driver feels. Every chassis builder gives you a base line set up. What you do in fine tuning it from there gets you to the front. Ask Jimmy Owens, he didn't forget how to drive, he just couldn't get those last couple tenths of speed out of the car. Cody and his brother coming back, along with his driving, made him lucas oil champion this year. EPJ hasn't forgotten how to drive, that car is just the biggest pc of garbage on tour.
