Jimmy Mars Travels to Land of Lincoln for Triple Shot to Close Out Late Model Season

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 team ventured south to the Land of Lincoln from October 9-11 to compete in the final three MARS Racing Series contests, which also likely marked their last Super Late Model events of the 2020 season. At Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Illinois on Friday night in the weekend opener, Jimmy timed in fifth fastest in Group B during qualifying before running third in his stacked heat race. The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace then rolled off from the inside of the sixth row in the $5,000 to win headliner and was up inside of the top ten early in the race when he unfortunately lost a bout with an infield tire, which caused heavy damage and relegated him to a disappointing twenty-second place effort.

On Saturday evening, the dirt-slinging action quickly moved to Fairbury Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois for the annual running of 'FALS Frenzy,' which boasted a hefty $15,000 top prize. Jimmy won his heat race in preliminary action, started the 50-lap main event from the pole position, and eventually crossed underneath the checkers in the fifth spot behind only race winner Brandon Sheppard, Josh Richards, Shannon Babb, and Kyle Strickler. In the weekend finale on Sunday at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois, Jimmy once again secured a heat race triumph before slipping to eighth in the final rundown of the $10,000 to win feature. Complete results from the MARS triple shot can be located online by clicking on www.marsracingseries.com.

While Jimmy is likely done for the season in his Late Model, there is a chance that the driver known as the “Iceman” jumps behind the wheel of a Modified later this year. So far in 2020, Jimmy has entered 48 events in the states of New Mexico, Arizona, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois and has racked up 3 wins, 27 Top Fives, and 33 Top Tens. He reached victory lane twice at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin – one for $3,000 – and was also victorious in one of the ‘Twin Ports Twin 25s’ at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin.
