ADAIRSVILLE, GA – A pair of Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series races this weekend at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS could end up deciding the 2020 National Champion. Friday night will see a $2,000-to-win 40-lap race, and on Saturday night, it’s a $3,000-to-win 50-lap race, Rounds 15 and 16 of the 2020 season.

Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, GA leads the Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series point standings with a 166-point advantage over second-place Corey Dunn of Milledgeville, GA. If Herrington leaves The Mag with over a 100-point lead in the standings, he will have clinched the $10,000 2020 National Championship.

Herrington has 1,284 points after four wins, 11 top five finishes, 12 top ten finishes and three Boyd Built Fabricators Fast Time Awards in 14 races. Dunn has 1,118 points after one win, three top five finishes, ten top ten finishes and two Fast Time Awards in 14 races. Dunn also leads the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings.

T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL is third in the Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series National standings with 1,098 points after one top five finish, eight top ten finishes and one Fast Time Award in 14 races. Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL is fourth with 1,070 points after one win, seven top five finishes and ten top ten finishes in 12 races.

Jody Knowles of Tyrone, GA is fifth in the National standings with 1,060 points after three top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in 14 races. Troy Dixon of Dallas, GA is sixth in the Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series National standings with 862 points in 14 races and he is second in the Cruise With The Champions Rookie points.

Another Rookie driver and a VP Racing Fuels Young Guns Challenge Series driver Trynt Lloyd of Jacksonville, FL is seventh in the National points with 840 points after two top ten finishes in 12 races. The VP Racing Fuels Young Gun Challenge Series is a series within a series for Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger.

Cody Overton of Evans, GA is eighth in the standings with 702 points after one win, four top five finishes and one Fast Time Award in nine races. Overton is also third in the Rookie points. Parker Martin of Milledgeville, GA is a VP Racing Fuels Young Guns driver and a Rookie driver that is ninth in the standings with 690 points after two top five finishes and five top ten finishes in ten races.

With three races left in the 2020 Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series season, Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS holds down the tenth and final points fund paying position with 624 points and one top ten finish in ten races.

Other Top 20 drivers with Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series wins in 2020 include Christian Hanger of Winchester, TN with two victories, Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, AL with one win, and Brandon Williams of Crossville, TN with one win. Local favorite Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL has two wins on the National Tour this season.

The on-track action begins tonight at Magnolia Motor Speedway with an Open Practice session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The pit gate opens at 5 p.m. The Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Street Stock, Late Model Sportsman, and Modified Sportsman Division will also be in action this Friday night, and Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

On Friday, the Pit Gate opens at 3 p.m. with Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6 p.m. with Hot Laps and Racing to follow. On Saturday night, the Pit Gate opens at 1 p.m. with the Drivers Meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and Hot Laps and Racing to follow.
