I didn't say it was now. I said at one time it was considered. That's not saying it was then at that time either.

Must be at least 16, but........you and your parents must sign a release of liability in case you get the Casey Roberts treatment!

attitude and yrs of experience should be a factor, my son ran crates when he was 13-14, then supers 17-now,
if he has a few yrs of carts they should be fine, it really depends on how respectful he or she may be, but i will say this, there are several people that just hate when a kid beats them, then takes advantage of said kindness and respect, at that point you've earned what ever happens, there was 1 time he over drove the car and was ruffing guys up, i parked him for it, wasn't an issue again
its a case by case for me

No disrespect intended to any parent or young driver, attitude and experience can’t be measured accurately. Age can, 18 minimum.
    I hate time trials.

I will say that maybe age 16 for Super Lates is good but maybe for other classes like street stocks and front wheel drives 14 and modifieds 15. I know a guy who ran Front Wheel Drives at like 13 and won and at 15 was winning in a modified and at 17 he won a super late race so it depends on maturity but if I had a track thats the limits I would have because of insurance.

the reason for the 16 year old limit was because after Jeff Gordon raced the way I remember Earl and others saying is that more drivers were getting hurt and even had fatalities and the insurance company they deal with decided to only cover people 16 and over and actually just a few years back they allowed people 14 years of age in the pits and just recently they allowed drivers kids in. Heck Shadybowl Speedway not far from Ohio had to get rid of the Legends and Dwarf classes because their insurance said they had too many hospital visits do to the cars being too fast. Might be why some of these mile tracks have gotten rid of the super lates

I started running open wheel modified when I was 15. My dad explained exactly what would happen if I did anything stupid. No more racing until he felt I was ready. He and some other old racers told me that if I wanted respect from the older guys, I had to earn it. I started in late models my senior year of high school and tried hard to race guys with respect. I was lucky to have good role models as parents and some really good racers who I did earn respect from who helped me tremendously when I was starting out. All that said, I would still say age limits, at least in the highest classes would be best.

Personal experience- you also have the 13 year olds parents yelling 'take him out', 'drive through him' as he drives into the car in front of him far enough to get hooked and flatten the other cars left rear tire. What do you do as a driver of the car that was ran into? Cellphone video of the whole piece, parents yelling for it to happen and all (not that he could hear them, but the results showed their 'coaching'). Again, what can the driver of the car this is taken out do to get the attention of the 13 year old?

I don't think it's the actual age that's the problem it depends on the person
I watched Justin Allgier run a Latemodel at i-55 Raceway when he was 14 and did real good also had respect for other drivers
