A Rare 7th USAC Triple-Crown Winner Is Crowned
Huge congrats go out to Chris Windom who became only the 7th driver in USAC history to win all 3 National division (Silver Crown, Sprint Car & Midget) points championships over the course of his career. Windom bested Tyler Courtney by a single point in the final tally. The points season ended at Bakersfield, CA last night!
Windom won the Silver Crown Series Championship in 2016, the National Sprint Car Championship in 2017 and completed the Triple Crown with his National Midget Championship in 2020.
Chris Windom is an Illinois boy originally from Canton, Illinois.
Windom is relatively diverse in his driving talents having won the prestigious Little 500 on the asphalt at Anderson Speedway in Indiana and a few other races on asphalt.
Windom ran 3rd in his first start driving an ARCA stock car on the dirt mile at Springfield, Illinois and ran 6th in a second start at Springfield. He also finished 5th at Du Quoin in an ARCA stock car on the mile dirt.

I reckon I could be jumping the gun just a bit here given that there are 2 more USAC National Midget races on the schedule at Merced, California on November 20th & 21st. However, those two races pay only show-points so unless Big Daddy Windom doesn't show up with a car both nights at Merced he's a lock to be the USAC National Midget Champion!
