I was fortunate enough during my middle school years to watch Ricky race street stocks at Harris Speedway when it was converted to dirt and was called Tri-City Speedway. He dominated that division in a #52 Chevelle. Then, I remember him moving up to late models at Cherokee Speedway. I fondly remember him driving the black #1 sponsored by Parton Lumber and White Pines Ranch running McCreary tires.

In between that, he drove a limited late model owned by Horton's truck repair at gaffney and raced against the likes of Wally Fowler and Petey Ivey. beat them quite often as well. Then he moved up to full late model driving a #6 car owned by Richard Franklin, Dennis "Rambo" Franklin's father. Won quite a few races in that car as well. In fact, I remember him out running Freddy Smith at the big G in that car when Freddy had the LA Gear sponsorship deal. No doubt about it, at Gaffney he was tough for anyone to beat! Anyway, sad to hear that he had covid, good to hear he's recovered!
