BARBERVILLE, FL – Michael Page of Douglasville, GA opened the 2nd Annual Sunshine Nationals for the Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series on Thursday night with a $1,500 victory at Volusia Speedway Park driving the Baird Motorsports Special. The race was Round 2 of the 6th Annual Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series.

Page took a .887 second margin of victory under the checkered flag in the 25-lap race over Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN in the Parkway Liquors Special. McCarter started 19th and was the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Hard Charger of the Race Award winner.

Mark Whitener of Middleburg, FL finished third and fourth went to the defending Sunshine Nationals Champion Kyle Bronson of Brandon, FL in the Brandon Ford Rocket. Two-time Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN was fifth in the Eagle Racing Engines Rocket.

Jake Knowles of Rome, GA took the sixth spot, and John Baker of Norman Park, GA finished seventh in the Baker Farms Special. Dylan Knowles of Lanett, AL drove the K-Line Logistics Rocket to an eighth-place finish, and ninth went to Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL in the Hunt The Front Special. Clay Harris of Jupiter, FL rounded out the top ten in the Wilkerson Farms Rocket.

In preliminary action, Todd Cooney of Pleasant Hill, IA topped the 56-car field in Boyd Built Fabricators Group Qualifying with a lap around the ½-mile clay oval in 14.224 seconds. The six eight-lap KRC Power Steering Heat Races were won by Page, Bronson, Johnny Collins of Hilliard, FL, Trey Mills of St. Augustine, FL in the Fitz Factory Special, Baker, and Jake Knowles.

The three ten-lap KRC Power Steering B-Main Races were won by McCarter, Carder Miller of Salem, VA, and Trynt Lloyd of Jacksonville, FL in the C&S Trailer Special. McCarter put on a show early in the race coming from the 19th starting spot to third in the first 12 laps of the race and into second spot on lap 17. That earned McCarter the VP Racing Lubricants Slick Move of the Race Award.

After the first two rounds of the Winter Shootout Series, Dylan Knowles leads the point standings with 180 points, followed by Jason Welshan of Maryville, TN with 172 points, Cody Overton of Evans, GA in the Budweiser Special with 168 points, Jake Knowles with 154 points, and Jody Knowles of Tyrone, GA in the Clayton Signs Gentry’s Used Auto Parts Special with 134 points.

The Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series will return to Volusia Raceway Park on Thursday night for Night 2 of the Sunshine Nationals and Round 3 of the Winter Shootout Series for a $2,000-to-win main event.
