Thanks for the post. I watched it and was happy to see that Dave Marcis, in his very early days, got a fourth place finish. Local car dealer Wausau Dodge on the quarter panel and Deppe Enterprises on the rear. Deppe still adorns the the 28 of Jimmy Mars!
Chris Economacki was always one of the best and Ken Squier was always Ken - yawn - Squier. Jim McKay was in the booth also. Mister figure skating calling a NASCAR race in 1971. The way things have changed. They were impressed at 22 second two tire pit stops, David Pearson smoking a cigarette in his interview at the end, announcers referring to Wendell Scott as the only "negro" driver in the field. Oh boy.
Those were the days just before Winston came in with big money. NASCAR at the time had only a couple things going for them, good weather and a couple superspeedways. USAC stock car division was not far behind NASCAR back then and if better managed could have been a real threat. USAC often had Foyt, Andretti and other good talent who ran on a regular basis but the Winston money changed everything.
Political correctness,...is the inability to speak the truth about the obvious.
