SAVANNAH, GA – Shun Thomas of Calhoun, GA has been named the driver of the Mike Vaughn Racing #1 Dirt Late Model race car sponsored by Vaden Chevrolet of Savannah, GA in the Back The Blue Showdown On The Coast race on February 18-20 at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler, GA.

The announcement was made on January 27 at the Vaden Chevrolet dealership, located at 9393 Abercorn Street in Savannah during a Meet and Greet with Mike Vaughn Racing Vaden Chevrolet Modified Sportsman driver, former NASCAR star Ken Schrader, who was impressed with Thomas’ driving skill at the recent Ice Bowl Race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The 37-year-old Thomas has been involved in racing for 20 years as a crew member and driver and has come up through the ranks of weekly racing, starting in the Four-Cylinder Division. Thomas has been a dirt late model driver for the past four seasons.

Thomas’ nephew Branpavis Wells and well-known crew chief Brad Carvin will turn the wrenches on the Vaden Chevrolet Special. Carvin has experience working with National Championship drivers Ronnie Johnson and Riley Hickman.

“We’re all excited and honored to get an opportunity like this with Mile Vaughn Racing and Vaden Chevrolet,” Thomas said. “The folks here at Vaden Chevrolet have made me feel so welcome, and I’m looking forward to working with Ken Schrader, who I just met at the Ice Bowl. Having the opportunity to have him as a teammate to learn from is awesome.”

The Vaden Chevrolet dirt late model race car can be powered by three different economical Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines for three different Divisions. The all-aluminum CT 525 can be used in Super Late Model competition, while the aluminum-head steel-block 604 is used in Crate Late Model racing, and the all-steel 602 powers the car in Late Model Sportsman action.

All three Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines are in stock at Vaden Chevrolet and ready for free next day delivery. To place an order call Rick at 1-833-823-3678. Mike Vaughn Racing will be announcing Thomas’ 2021 schedule driving the Vaden Chevrolet Rocket dirt late model race car in the near future.

“We are excited to have Shun Thomas and his crew as a part of our Vaden Chevrolet dirt late model team, and we know the potential is there for many wins in the future,” Mike Vaughn Racing Founder and Owner Mike Vaughn said. “Shun has received high praise from the driver of our Vaden Chevrolet Modified-Sportsman race car, former NASCAR star Ken Schrader.”
