Spring Thaw Nixed at Volunteer Speedway; Spring Nationals Opener Pushed to March 27

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series officials are unfortunately forced to announce the cancellation of the scheduled season opener at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee. Track owner Phyllis Loven informed series promoter Ray Cook yesterday that the $10,053 to win event – scheduled for March 13 – would not take place due to the facility not being ready. There is hope that the ‘Spring Thaw’ can be rescheduled for later this spring before the miniseries concludes on Memorial Day.

“It is disappointing for sure to lose a race, especially the season opener and one with as much history as the Spring Thaw has at Bulls Gap,” commented Cook via phone earlier today. “Phyllis (Loven) finally let me know that the race just isn’t possible for next weekend. It’s a shame because I know there was going to be a great field of cars and fans in the area were really looking forward to this race. Hopefully, they will open up Volunteer Speedway in the upcoming weeks and we can find a suitable reschedule date so that the Spring Thaw will take place in 2021.”

With the ‘Spring Thaw’ nixed (for now at least), all eyes will shift to the new season opener on Saturday, March 27 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee. The biggest event in the history of the Volunteer State oval will now lift the lid to the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series schedule and a $10,053 payday will be up for grabs. Much more information on this big race will be made available as the show nears. More information on “East Tennessee’s New Place to Race” can be located online at www.i75raceway.com.
