    what will be the best combination? wide bore tall deck long rods?

    The way it's looking right now I'd say a Mercury Racing 450R Outboard.

    Well that would depend on if you are running Hydraulic steering or a cable system.

    john kasse has a small block ford making nearly 1200hp on one four barrel with his new head , dont know if it will hold up on a dirt track but it is a beast....

    I'd assume horsepower matters more than torque. That said, possibly a big bore, short stroke combo? I dunno.

    big inch, with cup style heads, you'll never be under 5000 rpm

    Mike Duvall built one back in 00' he took to the first Bristol he dubbed, "Brutus". No idea how big it was though.
