Ray Cook Set for Weekend Off After Transferring into Bristol Dirt Nationals Opener

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) The “Tarheel Tiger” Ray Cook and his #53 team invaded the dirt-covered Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee on March 19-20 for the inaugural running of the 'Bristol Dirt Nationals.' On Friday night in the $10,000 to win weekend opener, Ray knocked down the tenth quickest lap in Group B during Super Late Model qualifying before grabbing the third transfer spot through his stacked heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the sixth row in the 25-lap feature event, Ray ran into handling woes during the contest and wound up retiring in the twenty-first position.

At the high-banked oval on Saturday evening, a whopping $50,000 top prize was up for grabs in the 'Bristol Dirt Nationals' grand finale. The team suffered from a leaking fuel line throughout the day and Ray qualified tenth fastest in Group B before finishing sixth in both his heat race and his B-Main. Unfortunately, the Brasstown, North Carolina ace was not able to advance into the 40-lap headliner that was ultimately won by Jonathan Davenport. The Ray Cook Racing team is now slated to take the next few weekends off from racing competition, as Ray will be busy promoting events on his Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series tour. The season opener is set for this Saturday, March 27 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee, as a $10,053 paycheck will be on the line at the newly reconfigured facility. Rounds two and three of the Spring Nationals will then take place on April 2-3 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia and Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee.
