Lucrative Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial Starts Spring Nationals Series Saturday at Tazewell

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) When the original version of the 2021 Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels schedule was unveiled in early January, the inaugural running of the ‘Lil Bill Corum Memorial’ at Tazewell Speedway was the fifth race listed on the twelve-race miniseries. With inclement weather already postponing a few series events this spring and the shuffling of others, the single-day throwdown on Saturday, April 3 at the Tazewell, Tennessee oval will mark the season opener for the eighth year tour.

Co-sanctioned by the Iron-Man Late Model Series, the ‘Lil Bill Corum Memorial’ will boast a whopping $21,000 top prize and will shell out $1,000 just to start the 75-lap main event. In addition to the posted feature purse money of $64,000, a myriad of other bonuses and contingencies are up for grabs including a $2,100 Fast Time Award courtesy of Toyota Knoxville.

A total of nineteen drivers pre-entered for the ‘Lil Bill Corum Memorial’ prior to the March 20 deadline to be eligible for the Fast Time Award. The drivers to watch try to beat the clock in qualifying and collect the extra cash include Ross Bailes, Michael Chilton, Shane Clanton, Jonathan Davenport, Greg Estes, Travis Fultz, Austin Glass, Vic Hill, Jordon Horton, Ryan King, Dakotah Knuckles, John Llewellyn, Pierce McCarter, Dale McDowell, Donald McIntosh, Dustin Nobbe, Brandon Overton, Jimmy Owens, and Jason Trammell.

The 'Lil Bill Corum Memorial' was on the 2020 schedule for the Spring Nationals tour, but the entire miniseries was unfortunately wiped out due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals Series has visited the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in two prior years, as Billy Ogle, Jr. scored a $6,000 win back in 2015 and Dakotah Knuckles secured a $5,000 triumph in 2018.

Times have been moved up one hour at "The Taz" this Saturday – due to forecasted chilly nighttime temperatures – with the pit gates now opening at 1:00pm and the grandstands swinging open for patrons starting at 4:00pm. The Driver's Meeting is slated for 5:00pm and hot laps will roll onto the high-banked racing surface at 6:00pm. Adult general admission will be $30.00 with children ages nine and under admitted for FREE. Pit admission will be $45.00 for adults and only $35.00 for children ages twelve and under. Tickets will only be sold at the racetrack and all grandstand seating is general admission.

The program for the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday, April 3 will feature a complete show of Group A&B qualifying, heat races, consolation events, and a 75-lap headliner. The Super Late Model tire rule will be Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. The entry fee will be $150.00 and transponders will be available to rent. Any driver not advancing into the 22-car feature field will receive $75.00 in tow money.

Along with the Super Late Models on the four-division racing card will be the Sportsman ($1,000 to win), Classic Car ($600 to win), and Street Stock ($500 to win) classes. Tazewell Speedway is located at 1400 Bacchus Road in Tazewell, Tennessee. If you can’t make it to the track, we invite you to watch all of the action LIVE on www.FloRacing.com.
