Inclement Weather Dooms I-75 Stop; Round Two of Spring Nationals Pushed to Next Friday

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) For the second time in the past several weeks, the biggest event in the history of I-75 Raceway has been doomed by inclement weather. Track and Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series officials regrettably announce that the $10,053 to win event scheduled for Saturday, April 10 has been postponed due to the high probability of heavy thunderstorms tomorrow throughout the area. The decision has been made early to save fans and race teams travel expenses with the 90% chance of rain.

The Sweetwater, Tennessee oval, which has been totally reconfigured and lengthened in recent months, was scheduled to greet the Spring Nationals tour back on March 27 and once again on April 10. Officials have worked out a third date for this race and it will now be contested next Friday, April 16. With the change from a Saturday show, the single-day shootout at I-75 Raceway next Friday will now shell out $5,053 to the winner.

“I have to really commend the racetrack,” quoted series promoter Ray Cook today. “They have been dealt a bad hand with weather two straight times, but they want to make sure this show gets in. With our schedule and other area track schedules, the best thing we could come up with was a Friday show. I know it’s not the $10,053 to win event that we had hoped to put on for the fans and teams, but plans are in the works to possibly do one of those five-figure races later in the year. I hope everyone can make it out and support I-75 Raceway next Friday night!”

On Friday, April 16, the pit gates and tier parking will both open at 3:00pm with the grandstands opening at 4:00pm. The drivers meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm and hot laps will take to the racetrack at 7:00pm. Adult admission will be $25.00 into the grandstands, $30.00 into tier parking, and $40.00 into the pit area. Kids ages 6-12 will be admitted into the grandstands and tier parking for only $15.00, while pit admission for that age group will be $20.00. All children ages 5 and under will be admitted onto the grounds for FREE.

Round two of the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series on Friday, April 16 will feature a complete show of FK Rod Ends Group A & B qualifying, consolation events, and a 40-lap headliner. The Super Late Model tire rule at I-75 Raceway will be Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. The entry fee will be $100.00 and transponders will be available to rent. Any driver not advancing into the feature field will receive $75.00 in tow money.

Along with the Super Late Models on the five-division racing card will be the 604 Late Models ($1,000 to win), 602 Late Models ($800 to win), B Sportsman ($250 to win), and FWD ($400 to win). The fastest qualifier for the 604 Late Model division will also be awarded $200.00 courtesy of Eagle Racing Engines. I-75 Raceway is conveniently located at 1791 Highway 68 in Niota, Tennessee.
