Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series Stop at Wythe Raceway Rescheduled for May 7

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Officials with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series are excited to announce that Wythe Raceway has returned to the 2021 schedule! With a scheduling conflict cited by Boyd’s Speedway for Friday, May 7, the Rural Retreat, Virginia speedplant quickly gobbled up the open date and Spring Nationals competitors will now be racing for a lucrative $10,053 top prize that evening. Series promoter Ray Cook couldn’t be more thrilled that a new date for Wythe has been secured since their original race date of Friday, April 2 was nixed due to extremely cold temperatures.

“Fred (Brown) and everyone at Wythe Raceway are great to work with and I’m glad we were able to fit them back into our schedule,” quoted Cook today. “A lot of drivers were looking forward to racing there back in early April and I think a great field will turn out on Mother’s Day weekend as well. With $10,053 on the line on both Friday at Wythe and on Saturday at Smoky Mountain, fans at both venues are sure to witness some great high-speed action with some of the best drivers in the country!”

A complete show featuring FK Rod Ends Group A & B qualifying, heat races, consolation events, and a 53-lap headliner is set for Friday, May 7 at picturesque Wythe Raceway. As track promoter Fred Brown has done recently, all Super Late Model entrants will be eligible to start the $10,053 to win feature event, which shells out $500 just to take the green flag. A day later, a lot of the same cars and stars that race with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series will head to the Volunteer State for a similar $10,053 to win program on Saturday, May 8 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee.

While the May 7 stop to Wythe Raceway will mark the first-ever visit by the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals tour, its sister series – the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series – has made a plethora of appearances at the 1/2-mile facility. In fact, Wythe Raceway has been on the summer tour schedule every year since 2006. The previous winner’s list is a virtual “who’s who” in Super Late Model racing - Dennis Franklin ('06), Chris Madden ('07 & '08), Vic Hill ('09), Mother Nature ('10), Austin Dillon ('11), Vic Hill ('12), Chris Madden ('13), Jonathan Davenport ('14), Billy Ogle, Jr. ('15), Dale McDowell ('16), Vic Hill ('17), Dale McDowell ('18), Brandon Overton ('19 & '20).

Jonathan Davenport (Tazewell Speedway) and Brandon Overton (I-75 Raceway) have already picked up wins with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series during the 2021 campaign. A total of thirteen drivers have perfect attendance so far, which keeps their hopes alive to pocket the $10,053 payday for claiming the Championship. Currently, Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Dale McDowell has a scant two point lead over Brandon Overton in the miniseries point chase with Donald McIntosh, Cory Hedgec0ck, and David Payne rounding out the top five.
