    Default Rice blown motor

That was crazy!!! I don’t remember if I've ever seen anything like that in all my years of watching late model racing. Have you ever seen a motor let go and smoke that bad? Scary how the throttle was stuck open in the pits. So bizzare

that was scary. I thought it was gonna explode with all those people standing around. Did they put it out by dumping water right down the carb?

Reminds me of a diesel runaway. Sure don’t understand how a gas engine would do it and why it couldn’t have been shut down.

Crazy scene for sure. Believe this is what was happening.

I believe that's what my dad's boat would do that at times. You had to remember to put it in neutral and give it slight throttle when turning it off and it wouldn't do that.

One would think their would be a accessible fuel shutoff.

I'm sure it was hard for the folks to not panic in that situation, all they needed was a rag over the carb to smother it out. It was running on fumes and dieseling.

Could be that the engine was running off the oil. That would explain all the smoke.

Props to Mark Richards for keeping his cool and stepping in to tell Rice get out of the car as everyone else stood waiting to see if it would shut off or catch fire first

That was wild! There are tons of runaway diesel video compilation videos on Youtube that are very entertaining, but I can't say I've ever seen a gas engine do that. Eldora always delivers when it comes to craziness and drama.

A friend who worked at a local engine shop told of the throttle sticking wide open while dynoing an engine. He said it was hard to talk himself into going in there with it screaming at 8 to 9k rpm,and him acting out opening and closing the door to the dyno was a scream. They also had a harmonic balancer come off and shatter the dyno room window right in front of their faces.

Had a KW diesel on me. It was pretty wild. Did the same thing, took the fire bottle and smothered the air cleaner. When it ran out of air and stopped it cracked the crank and the block. So, that josh rice motor could easily be a dead pony. Shame the kid was definitely up on the wheel.

Same thing happened to Tony Jackson Jr. at Monett Spdwy several yrs ago. When they overheat badly(like 300 degrees), they can diesel like that.
