Jimmy Mars Gets Fifth Win of 2021 Season at Rice Lake; Busy Week with Outlaws Ahead!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Jimmy Mars was busy with the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series in his home state of Wisconsin from July 29-31 and was able to record his fifth triumph of the 2021 racing season! On Saturday night at Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Jimmy advanced three spots in his heat race to finish second and later rolled off from the outside of the second row in the 40-lap ‘Swant Graber Motors 40.’ Jimmy then streaked past leader Steve Laursen with an outside move to grab the point on lap 30 and led the remainder of the feature distance to pocket the $2,000 top prize ahead of Laursen, Rick Hanestad, Jake Redetzke, and his son Sam Mars!

Earlier in the hectic extended weekend, the Mars Racing team was in the pit area on Thursday at ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wisconsin for the ‘Tanner Byholm Memorial,’ which shelled out a $3,444 winner’s check. Jimmy won his heat race in preliminary action and later moved up three positions during the 44-lap headliner en route to a fifth place performance behind only victor Jesse Glenz, Pat Doar, Derek Vesel, and John Kaanta.

At Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin on Friday, a pair of $2,000 paydays were on the line in the annual running of the ‘Twin Ports Twin 25s.’ After climbing to third in his heat race, Jimmy started second on the grid in the first 25-lapper, but unfortunately suffered a flat tire and was relegated to an eighteenth place showing. That put him starting from the outside of the ninth row in the final ‘Twin Ports Twin 25’ and the Menomonie, Wisconsin native made the most it by passing twelve competitors on his way to a steady sixth place effort. Full results from each of these WISSOTA Challenge Series races can be viewed online at www.wissotachallengeseries.com.

The #28 team has another hectic week in store, as the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series roars into the Badger State to preside over races at both Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Wisconsin and Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Up first will be a visit to Outagamie Speedway later tonight, August 3, for the $10,000 to win ‘FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.’ The action will then quickly turn to the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway from August 5-7 for the 34th Annual ‘USA Nationals.’

Things will kick off at the 3/8-mile facility on Thursday with a $6,000 to win program. Double Drydene heat races and a dash will then be held on Friday night leading into Saturday’s grand finale. The winner of the 100-lap ‘USA Nationals’ on Saturday evening at Cedar Lake will once again receive a $50,000 windfall. Not only will Jimmy be gunning for his third ‘USA Nationals’ title and the carved wooden eagle trophy that comes with it, he will also compete in the NASCAR Late Model portion of the weekend. A pair of $2,500 paychecks will be on the line on Friday and Saturday for the local division that competes weekly at Cedar Lake Speedway.
