    Default RIP Bob Jenkins

Bob Jenkins, who was the voice of ESPN NASCAR broadcasts for many years, and was the voice of the Indianapolis 500 radio and TV broadcasts for decades has passed away.

Mr. Jenkins was as good as there ever was on the mike of any motorsports broadcast.

I had the absolute honor of Mr. Jenkins extending birthday wishes to me over the PA at The Belleville Midget Nationals back in 2013. A minor gesture to be sure but one I'll never forget!

    Rest In Peace Mr. Jenkins........................................

I remember meeting Mr. Jenkins at Santa Fe Speedway near chitcago. He was doing the USAC Sprint Car race at Santa Fe that night. He was teamed up with Larry Nuber at that time who did the pit reporting and actually had Kenny Schrader in the booth with him although I don't believe Kenny did any color commentary that night. They taped the show opening 2' from where we were setting and he carried on a conversation with several of us before going into the booth to do the broadcast. I was in high school at that time and it was one of the coolest things we'd ever been a part of at that time!!

Had the pleasure of conversing with Bob on a few occasions over the years.

I’m guessing here, 1987, and ESPN SpeedWorld did both the USAC Sprints and the Late Models that year.

He was one of the best to ever call a TV race.
