Tanner English Finishes a Close Third in Summer Nationals Points; Lake Cumberland Next

(NORRIS CITY, ILLINOIS) After concentrating solely on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour since June 15, Tanner English and the Riggs Motorsports team have turned their focus to the annual running of the ‘Harold Hardgrove Memorial’ on Saturday night, August 28. The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series will preside over the single-day special event tomorrow night at Lake Cumberland Speedway and a strong field of competitors is expected to do battle for the $10,022 payday. A complete show featuring Super Late Model qualifying, heat races, consolation events, and a 50-lap feature will headline the program at the Burnside, Kentucky oval.

Tanner emerged victorious in the 2019 edition of the ‘Harold Hardgrove Memorial’ at Lake Cumberland Speedway and finished seventh in last year’s version of the race. The Benton, Kentucky hotshoe comes into the event with seven feature wins already in 2021 including one at LCS back on April 17. Additional information on tomorrow’s show in the Bluegrass State can be accessed by clicking on www.lcspeedway.net.

The #81e team is fresh off completing the grueling “Hell Tour,” as they competed in the final four Summer Nationals tour shows of the year last week (August 18-21) in the Wolverine State. Tanner racked up a trio of top fives last week including a stellar runner-up effort last Thursday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. He placed fourth in his heat race at the sprawling racetrack, but blitzed past nine competitors during the 40-lap headliner to claim the second place finish behind only $5,000 victor Devin Moran!

On Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Michigan, Tanner won his heat race and later wound up fourth at the checkers in the 40-lapper behind only $10,000 race winner Ashton Winger, Devin Moran, and Frank Heckenast, Jr. In a similar $10,000 to win show to wrap up the series on Saturday at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Michigan, Tanner ran second in his loaded heat race before starting and finishing fifth in the A-Main behind only winner Ashton Winger, Devin Moran, Travis Stemler, and Chad Finley.

With those pair of wins by Winger and an unfortunate twenty-first place finish (after getting caught up in a pileup) by English on Wednesday in a $5,000 to win show at Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Michigan, Tanner dropped from second in the series point standings to third. Bobby Pierce won another “Hell Tour” Championship, while Ashton Winger edged out Tanner for the runner-up position.
