Jimmy Mars Starts Prepping for World 100 Week After Pair of Davenport Top Tens

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The inaugural running of the 'Quad Cities 150' took place from August 26-28 and brought the Mars Racing team to Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa for the three-day World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series show. Things kicked off in the Hawkeye State with a pair of $10,000 to win throwdowns. Last Thursday night in the opener, Jimmy Mars placed third in his loaded heat race before climbing three spots in the 40-lap feature en route to a strong eighth place performance. On the 1/4-mile oval on Friday evening, Jimmy ran second in his heat race, drew the fifth starting spot for the main event, and eventually placed seventh in the final finishing order of the 40-lapper.

On Saturday, a whopping $30,000 paycheck was up for grabs in the 'Quad Cities 150' grand finale. Jimmy grabbed the third transfer spot through his stacked heat race and later rolled off from the inside of the fifth row in the 70-lap finale. The Menomonie, Wisconsin Hall of Famer then blitzed all the way up to third in the running order before unfortunately slipping over the banking in between turns three and four on lap 49. Jimmy chose to retire from the contest at that point and headed to the pit area with a disappointing fifteenth place showing. Complete results from each of these three races can be found by logging onto www.woolms.com.

The #28 team will enjoy the Labor Day holiday weekend away from the racetrack, but will be busy in the shop preparing their equipment for the upcoming ‘World 100’ week. Jimmy will tackle the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio from September 8-11. Up first at the “Big E” will be the 51st Annual ‘World 100,’ as a pair of $10,000 to win Twin 25 programs on Wednesday will help set the stage for Thursday’s crown jewel extravaganza, which will boast a $54,000 payday in a 100-lap headliner.

The rescheduled 50th Annual ‘World 100’ will then take place at Eldora Speedway on Friday and Saturday. A pair of $10,000 to win Twin 25 shows will be held on Friday night at the high-banked, 1/2-mile speedplant to set the lineup for Saturday’s $53,000 to win grand finale. Jimmy’s best career ‘World 100’ finish came back in 2004 when he claimed a strong fifth place effort behind only race winner Chub Frank, Don O’Neal, Brian Birkhofer, and Dan Schlieper.
