Default Plastic quarter panels on late models

It was mentioned at the World that JD was using them at the World, and again last night at 411. Id often wondered why they didnt use them instead of sheet metal. Flexibility maybe?! Ithink youll see more teams use them in the future.

I remember something about this from a few years ago. Someone was making these due to teams wouldn’t have to replace them as often. Metal gets crinkled and the plastic ones don’t. Never figured out why it didn’t take off better back then

Probably cost. The noses are outrageous for something we used to make with a sheet of aluminum and a roll of plastic.

Back when I bought sheet aluminum it was 32.00 a sheet. What is it today ? 80 plus ? A formed plastic nose today is like 800.00 I believe. Some crazy chit there, I'm betting the plastic is lighter and a lot more than the aluminum. WRG and Lucas need to rule this cost out. Any way back to making common sense.

Comes in a set of 20. So, that's really only $12.50 each.

Unless, they are somekind of composite (figerblass, kevlar, or carbon fiber) I seriously doubt that. From the link above it talks mostly about their flexibility and how they don't dent or wrinkle. It also mentions they are less likely to cut down a tire. It's quite possible these could be cheaper in the long run.

They may be cheaper for people who reskin their car every time it gets a crease. But then again, will they peel the wrap off and go fresh?

Do they still spark when they hit the fence? That’s a must.

Anything we can do to promote more money transfer from race teams to Five Star is a win in my book. Like Ive always said, theres always been a lack of composites in this sport. The harder it is to cheaply reproduce in your garage with common every day tools, the better!

I run the Gorsuch Plastic QP and love it. It's more durable, doesn't crinkle with contact, and is pretty light. Plus if it rubs on the tire it won't cut the tire as quickly as aluminum would, in fact usually if it rubs on the tire it'll just remove the plastic instead of hurting the tire.

The only downside in my opinion is you have to do some prep work to it before putting the wrap on to get it to stick good.

Another way to make money from the racers, most race for a fraction of what their car cost
