Northern California finally gets rain. Had a couple of inches this week with another couple hitting today and 4-6 inches more in the next few days. The mountains are getting a couple of feet of snow.
The good- a couple of the biggest fires with over 225,000 acres each are finally out and the ranch ponds are rapidly refilling and the migratory fowl will be returning and the vegetation will be coming back after one of the driest summers I can remember. One of the area ski resorts, Mammoth, about 50 miles up the Sierra at 7,000 feet, will open for the season next week.
The bad- tomorrow's big annual Taxi Challenge race at nearby Marysville Raceway called the cancellation yesterday. It's one of our favorite shows, all non sprint car classes, a rarity around here, with Limited LM, Super/Pro Stocks (us), Sport Mods, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks. We've won it about every other year since it started around 2012 when my son was driving and usually top three with his old man in it. The sticky 1/4 suits both our driving styles and we've got about a jillion laps there over the last 30+ years. Hate to miss it this year but the rain is more important. All of our burned out neighbors who lost everything 2 months ago to the fires just wish it had come in August.
