That was probably my favorite era of the Summer Nationals, when you had a nice variety of guys from down south (like Frye, Barnhart and Russell) and guys from up north (like Cryderman), along with the regional racers. Before the internet and PPV, you might have only heard of those guys or seen a pic of them in the weekly racing paper. Getting to see them race in person was pretty special for us Midwesterners.
