    Default Spring smashers

What brand has the best auto-run feature?

I recently watched a video from Kirk Loudy and Mike Nuchols and they recommended one with that feature. They claimed they were more accurate as they similate the shock in motion.

All I can say is wow. They couldn't be more wrong. Springs and bumps produce a force relative to position. A shock produces forces relative to velocity. The wheel moves at many different velocities on the track. The only way to have the correct picture is to take static measurements with a smasher and pair that with shock dyno data.

All you are doing with an auto run is muddying your measurements by adding in shock force relative to the shaft velocity at the point you record the data. That's absolutely terrible measurements practice.

The only way to make that type of simulation yield valuable data is to have an auto run so advanced that you can record data during a on-track test session and have the smasher recreate the exact waveform recorded during the on-track session.

Then, when you change any load bearing hardware, the same on-track would need to be recorded again.

These auto-runs have gained popularity because someone gives you load numbers and they are using "auto run machine xyz". You can't accurately match their arbitrary numbers unless you also have "auto run machine xyz".

They did mention pairing it with on track data.

They also said to get the Racepak data logger for one shock travel sensor. They said it would be the best $1,000 a Sat nite racer would spend!
