Rod Conley Nabs Top Five in Portsmouth Opener; Both CMI Drivers Eye Historic 100

(WHEELERSBURG, OHIO) Brothers Rod and R.J. Conley helped kick off the 2022 season at the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on Saturday night, May 28. A weekly Super Late Model program was held at PRP and a $2,000 winner's check was on the line. Rod stopped the clock eighth fastest overall during the qualifying session before running fourth in his heat race. "Hot Rod" then advanced past four competitors during the headliner to land in the fourth finishing position behind only victor Kirk Phillips, Brandon Fouts, and Josh Bocook.

R.J., on the other hand, timed in second quickest during qualifying prior to securing a victory in his heat race. Unfortunately, R.J. was involved in a first lap incident while racing for the lead, which sent him hard into the outside retaining wall and relegated the Wheelersburg, Ohio ace to a disappointing fourteenth place showing in the track's season opener.

On Sunday evening, May 29, Rod and his #71R team were in the pit area at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the annual running of the 'Johnny Appleseed Classic.' The DIRTcar Super Late Models competed for a $5,000 top prize at the "Big E." Rod laid down the twenty-first fastest lap during time trials and later ran sixth in his stacked heat race. On the rugged racing surface in the 30-lap headliner, Rod moved forward early in the contest before retiring with damage in the twelfth spot. Both Conley Motorsports, Inc. (CMI) drivers - Rod and R.J. Conley - have their sights set on entering the lucrative ‘Historic 100’ over the June 3-4 weekend at the sprawling West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, West Virginia. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will preside over all the action later tonight and tomorrow at the monster 5/8-mile speedplant. A $15,000 to win show is set for Friday’s weekend opener, while Saturday’s grand finale boasts a whopping $50,000 windfall. If you can’t make it to WVMS, you can watch every lap LIVE on MAVTV Plus.
