For the second time in as many late model racing opportunities this season at Park Jefferson International Speedway, a northern trek proved profitable for Malvern’s Justin Zeitner. Also triumphant during the 2022 opening night in late April, the speedy southwestern Iowan made his way through the Tri-State Series A feature crowd and crossed the finish line in front. Zeitner out-dueled a pair of heat victors in Denison’s Shane DeMey and Watertown, S.D., native Trevor Anderson to take the checkers. Anderson and DeMey went two-three.The theme of red-hot drivers continued in the season points divisions. Sioux City’s David Miller was white hot to match the race night temperatures, claiming the Q and Feather Again Hobby Stock for the fifth time in six outings. His divisional lead ballooned to 31 points. Vermillion’s Karl Brewer made victory lane home for his 13K Sport Mod, winning an A feature for the third time overall and second successive weekend. His success recipe was the same as the previous weekend in which he captured Heat One and kept on going. Fifteen-year old local phenom Willy Kirk of Sloan and fellow townsperson Michael Guthrie kept the pressure on current points leader Rusty Montagne of North Sioux City, S.D., closing within 12 and 33 points, respectively. In the J&J Fitting stock car division, Sioux City’s Sid Mosher continued to maintain a slim advantage over two other Sioux Citians in Todd Gereau and Aaron Cain as both climbed within 15 of first on the season listing. Mosher claimed his sixth top 10 finish, placing eighth. Beresford, S.D.’s Kole Nordquist was a feature victor for the first time this season. The Yankton, S.D., combination of Connor and Taylor Brown, driving the 35x and 35JR cars as part of the Fox 620 Sport Compacts, resumed their successful season resumes. Connor was a first-time victor feature-wise during a difficult finale where four of the 10 involved didn’t finish. Taylor kept his season advantage by 10 points over Magnolia, Iowa’s Jordan Runge. Local favorite Bob Moore closed with three digits of season leader DeMey on the JZ Diesel modified standings, garnering his fifth top five and sixth top 10 with an A feature triumph.A magnificent three days of competition comes to southeastern South Dakota Saturday, June 18 and Monday, June 20. It’s Driver Appreciation Night Saturday for a regular points evening with tickets for only $10 from your favorite driver and a state record-setting $5,000-to-win purse and $300 to start sport mods night Monday for the 2022 Heartland Horsepower Nationals.
