Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series Kicks Off in a Week; Schedule Alterations Announced

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) 12 races. 16 days. A summertime tradition in the south. The 18th edition of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series is right around the corner and the 2022 version of the schedule, which was recently finalized, is set to be the richest in the storied history of the Super Late Model miniseries. A total of eight events will pay out at least $10,053 to the winner and the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series Champion will once again receive a $10,053 paycheck among other Championship spoils.

A few schedule alterations have been made in recent days, however. Firstly, the event scheduled for Friday, July 22 has been moved to the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama after Needmore Speedway officials recently confirmed that they could not host the show. The visit to EAMS on that Friday will shell out a $5,053 top prize. Secondly, the Tuesday, July 26 showdown at Toccoa Raceway in Toccoa, Georgia will now boast a $10,067 windfall to celebrate the track’s 67 year anniversary instead of the previously announced $4,053 to win program.

“I am really excited about this year’s Southern Nationals Series schedule and ready to kick things off next week at Beckley,” exclaimed series promoter Ray Cook today. “I hated to lose the Needmore race, but I’m very thankful that the ownership of East Alabama Motor Speedway stepped up to take the event in very short notice. With Toccoa upping their show to $10,067 that gets us back to eight five figure races and that is something we are really proud of this year. Through the great partnerships and relationships we have with our family of tracks, we have steadily been able to grow the series and keep paying out more and more money!”

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series will lift the lid to the 2022 schedule next Friday, July 15 with the ‘Black Gold 53’ at Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount Hope, West Virginia. Following the $10,053 to win opener in the Mountaineer State, two additional $10,053 first place prizes will be on the line later in the opening weekend on Saturday, July 16 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia and on Sunday, July 17 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.

From there, both I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee and Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia will host $4,053 to win midweek events on July 19 and July 21 respectively. The newly announced race at East Alabama Motor Speedway will start the second weekend of action on July 22 before the tour heads to Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania Georgia on Saturday, July 23 and Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia on Sunday, July 24 for a pair of $10,053 to win showdowns.

A $10,067 check will then await the cars and stars racing with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series on Tuesday night, July 26 at Toccoa Raceway in Toccoa, Georgia before the series invades Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina on Thursday, July 28 for a $4,053 to win shootout. The penultimate event of the tour will then take center stage on Friday, July 29 at Crossville Speedway, as the Crossville, Tennessee oval hosts its largest Super Late Model race in several years - shelling out a $10,053 payday. The high-banked Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee will once again hold the $10,053 to win point finale on Saturday, July 30, as it has done every year since the series inception back in 2005.

After consulting with both Hoosier Racing Tires and American Racer Tire in recent days, series promoter Ray Cook is ready to announce a slightly altered tire rule for the 2022 Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series. The tire rule will be Hoosier 1350 and 1600 or American Racer 48 and 56 on the right front, left rear, and right rear, while the left front will be totally open. There will also be a six-tire limit enforced at the following racetracks: Beckley Motor Speedway, Screven Motor Speedway, Swainsboro Raceway, and Toccoa Raceway. In the other eight series races, there will be no limit to the amount of tires you can use each night.

Body rules and the Droop Rule will be the same as those agreed on by both the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series - among many others. The entry fee each night will be $100.00 and transponders will be available to rent. Any driver not advancing into the feature field will receive $75.00 in tow money. As has been the case during the last few years, ALL of the series events will broadcast LIVE to subscribers of FloRacing!
