Johnny Scott Races to $15,000 Career Win in CMH Diamond Nationals
Team Set for Silver Dollar Nationals this Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (07/18/22) – Saturday night found Johnny Scott putting an exclamation point on his week behind the wheel of his Rancho Milagro Racing No. 1st Mesilla Valley Transportation/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engines Super Late Model.

The New Mexico native stormed to the richest win of his young career with a $15,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) / Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) triumph in the Diamond Nationals at Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway.

“It’s a heck of a night,” said Johnny Scott, whose previous wins this season at Wheatland came in April 22’s Lucas Oil MLRA Spring Nationals and May 27’s Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson that preceded the Show-Me 100. “I’ve been trying so hard to win these Lucas Oil races, so it’s a relief to finally get (another) one.

“I just gotta thank all my crew. Without them, none of this would be possible,” Scott said. “And without my brother and his crew, nothing of this would be possible either. They help me a ton on this car. I’m just glad we could finally put it all together tonight.”

Both Johnny and Stormy Scott opened their week with a visit to Stuart Speedway (Stuart, Iowa) on Monday afternoon for the opening round of the XR Super Series-sanctioned Fever Heat 100.

With 42 Late Models entered, Stormy secured his spot into the opening night feature with a second-place finish in his heat race, while Johnny had to rely on a provisional to start the finale. With $20,000 on the line, Stormy recorded an 11th-place finish while Johnny retired early.

For another $20,000-to-win A-Main on Tuesday, Johnny finished second in his heat race, while Stormy outdueled Tyler Erb in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. Both drivers held their starting spot in the 50-lap feature, with Stormy crossing the line in sixth and Johnny trailing him in seventh.

On Thursday, Johnny continued his pursuit for the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA) championship with a trip to the newly reopened I-70 Motorsports Park (Odessa, Mo.) for another event co-sanctioned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). Slated to start the feature in 10th via a 4th-place finish in his heat race, Scott suffered a broken fuel and power steering pump during the pace laps that prevented him from completing a lap.

The following night with Johnny taking the evening off, Stormy followed the LOLMDS to Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) for the NAPA Know How 50. Earning the ninth-starting position for the feature via a third-place finish in his heat, Scott was an early retiree from the 50-lapper after drawing the race’s lone caution on the 12th circuit. He was credited with a 24th-place finish.

On Saturday with Johnny rejoining Stormy at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the CMH Diamond Nationals, Johnny recorded the quickest lap in time trials before placing second in his heat race after suffering a flat tire on the last lap. Starting the feature in fifth, Johnny sailed past Jimmy Owens for the lead on the second circuit and led the remainder of the 50-lapper to capture a career high payday and his fifth win of the season. He pocketed $15,000 ahead of Jimmy Owens, Brandon Sheppard, Mark Burgtorf, and Kyle Strickler. Stormy crossed the line in 19th after utilizing a provisional to start the A-Main.
