I'd love to see an 86-88 wedge car with modern shocks & tires race against the current cars. Be easy enough to tweak the old 4-link cars to work.

You mean a wedge car with side boards? If so, I think youd have to setup the suspension very differently. The big side boards would actual make the car roll in the opposite direction when sideways in the corner. With all the roll steer and such that's being used on today's cars that would have to accounted for.
