SPRING CITY, TN – Mountain View Raceway will present the Inaugural $2,000-to-win $100-to-start “King of the Crates” Race this Saturday night for Late Models powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance 604 and 602 Circle Track Engines. Five Mountain View Raceway racing Divisions will also be a part of the program.

Along with the Crate Late Models, the Mountain View Raceway Sportsman, Open-Wheel Modified, Thunder, Front-Wheel-Drive, and Junior Front-Wheel-Drive Divisions will also be in action for Race Gas Driver Appreciation Night on the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval with Regular Weekly Point Races.

Drivers from throughout the Southeast are early entries for the King of the Crates Race. They include Jason Markewitz of Greenhill, AL, Dalton Dowdy of Madison, AL, Gary Jones of Florence, AL, Brandon Miller of Maryville, TN, and William Blankenship of McMinnville, TN who will be taking on Mountain View Raceway regulars for the big money,

Local favorites include Kelby Norwood of Athens, TN, who has a Limited Late Model win at MVR with a 604 engine, plus Jeff Jackson of Ooltewah, TN, Zach Shannon of Wartburg, TN, Seth Jolley of Spring City, TN, Derick Shannon of Wartburg, TN, Bradley Goodman of Spring City, TN, and Jeremy Shannon of Wartburg, TN.

The economical 604 and 602 Crate Engines are produced by Chevrolet Performance. The numbers 604 and 602 represent the Chevrolet part number of the engine and they’re available at Chevrolet dealers across the country. The “Crate” name is from the wooden shipping containers used to deliver the engine to the customers.

The Chevrolet Performance 604 Engine is a 400 horsepower aluminum head steel block engine, and the Chevrolet Performance 602 Engine is a 350 horsepower steel head steel block engine. Both engines are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications.

There will be a $200 Bonus for the highest finishing 602 Engine, and the second highest finishing 602 Engine will receive a $100 Bonus from Phillips Racing. The Fast Qualifier for the King of the Crates Race will receive a $100 Bonus from J2 Graphics. There is also a proposed $1,000 in Lap Prizes for the 40-lap Feature Race at $25 a lap. That makes for a possible $3,000-to-win!!

The 604 and 602 Engines will run under the Crate Racin’ USA rules, including weight, and sealing requirements. On Saturday night, the Pit Gate opens at 3 p.m. and the Grandstand and Tier Parking Gates open at 4 p.m. The Mandatory Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. and Hot Laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

For this Special Event, Pit Passes are $30 for Adults, $15 for Children 6-11, and Children 5 and under are admitted Free. The General Admission and Tier Parking ticket prices are $15 for race fans 12 and older, Children 6-11 are $5, and Children 5 and under are admitted Free. All Children must be accompanied by an Adult.
