SPRING CITY, TN – King William I was crowned the Mountain View Raceway King of the Crates on Saturday night as William Blankenship of McMinnville, TN won the King of Crates 40 lap main event driving the Blankenship Farms & Nursery Excell. Blankenship took $3,100 to the bank with $2,000 for the win, $1,000 in Lap Prizes and $100 for the J2 Graphics Fast Time Award.

It was a dominant performance for Blankenship, as he swept the program for Late Models powered by Chevrolet Performance 604 and 602 Crate Engines, as the J2 Graphics Fast Qualifier, and he led all 40 laps of the race at $25 per lap in Lap Sponsorship money. Blankenship turned a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.528 seconds to earn the pole position.

Zach Shannon of Wartburg, TN finished second in the Shannon & Sons Trucking Rocket and third went to Oakley Johns of Hohenwald, TN driving the Johns Timber Rocket. Brandon Miller of Maryville, TN was fourth in the Maryville Nutrition CVR, and Tyler Price of Greenback k, TN rounded out the top five aboard the Bishop Construction Rocket.

Kelby Norwood of Etowah, TN finished sixth in the Exit Real Estate Rocket. Hayden Cardwell of Knoxville, TN drove the Hogan Racing Mastersbilt to a seventh-place finish to pocket the $200 TLD Truck Driving School Bonus for the highest finishing car powered by a 602 engine. Trevor Sise of Knoxville, TN took the eighth spot in the Sise Racing Special.

In other preliminary action, the two eight lap Heat Races for the Inaugural Mountain View Raceway King of the Crates Race were won by Miller and Holcomb.

At the drop of the green flag to start the race, Blankenship took the lead from the pole position followed by Shannon, Johns, Miller and Norwood. Price passed Norwood for the fifth spot on lap two, and by lap five, Blankenship had pulled out to a 1.5 second lead over Shannon.

The leader caught the cars on tail end of the lead lap by the seventh lap, but the lapped cars went away after a lap 12 caution flag brought out after Seth Jolley of Spring City, TN spun the J2 Graphics CVR in turn two. Blankenship brought Shannon, Johns, Miller, and Price down for the restart

While Blankenship pulled away, Shannon was busy trying to hold off a challenge from Johns for the second spot. Shannon and Johns raced side-by-side for two laps, as Shannon prevailed, and Johns tucked back behind his rear bumper. Blankenship found himself mired in heavy lapped traffic on lap 16, but the only thing that would allow Shannon to close in was a lap 26 caution flag.

Jeremy Thurman of Rockwood, TN spun the Thurman Racing TNT in turn two, bringing out the second caution flag of the race. That bunched up the field for a restart with Blankenship leading Shannon, Johns, Miller, and Price back to green flag action on the restart.

The race would see its final caution flag on lap 30 when Dalton Dowdy of Madison, AL spun the Freedom Trax Rocket in turn three. Blankenship pulled out to a 1.137 lead over Shannon on the restart, and with five laps to go, he extended his lead to 2.707 seconds. Blankenship cruised to the checkered flag with a 2.722 second margin of victory over Shannon.

It was time for Blankenship to steer his dominant #32 into Victory Lane for the coronation. He was now the Mountain View Raceway King of the Crates. He climbed from the car, and removed his helmet. A regal crown was placed on his head and a robe placed over his shoulders.
