Jeff Taylor Wins Race For Hope 71 Opener; Finishes Third in Finale

(09/26/22) – Jeff Taylor picked up a prelim win in Batesville Motor Speedway’s Race for Hope 71 on Thursday night before finishing third in Saturday’s finale aboard his Industrial Electric No. 5 Wehrs Machine/ Skyway Auto Group/ NewVisionCustomShirts.com / Shaw Race Cars IMCA Modified.

“We had a pretty sporty weekend and got a win on Thursday. We were good on Saturday too, but just a tick off where we needed to be to get the win,” Taylor said. “Overall though, we were pleased with the weekend. We’re heading to Southern Oklahoma Speedway this weekend. We’ve had some success there in the past and are looking forward to taking a shot at the big check this weekend.”

Jeff Taylor made the short trip to Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) on Thursday afternoon to compete in the opening round of the sixth annual Race for Hope 71.

With 39 IMCA Modifieds on the grounds for the three-day event, Taylor secured his spot into the preliminary feature with a heat race triumph. Outrunning his brother Peyton in the 40-lap feature, Jeff raced to his seventh win of the season, which came ahead of Peyton, Wendell Wallace, Dallas Everrett, and Shawn Walsh. He earned $4,000 for the victory.

For the second round on Friday, Jeff followed up a fourth-place showing in his heat race with a 12-lap consolation victory. Advancing through the field 10 spots in the 40-lap A-Main, Taylor reeled in a 10th-place finish.

On Saturday, Taylor’s heat race victory over Jayden Schmidt positioned him on the second row for the Race for Hope 71 finale.

Taking part in a heated battle with his brother Peyton, Jeff paced the field for the first 10 circuits of the feature but was unable to hold off his brother in the closing laps, marking him third on the rundown. He trailed Peyton and Cody Laney to the checkers with Wendell Wallace and Jayden Schmidt completing the Top-5 finishers.

The upcoming weekend – September 30 – October 1 – will take Taylor to Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Ardmore, Okla.) for the 18th annual Jordan Page Memorial Winter Nationals. The weekend is headlined by a $2,500-to-win finale.
