SPRING CITY, TN – Addison Cardwell of Knoxville, TN drove the Cardwell Racing Rocket to victory in the 35-lap Brian Hooks Memorial Race on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway. Cardwell took the lead on a lap 14 restart, built up a three second lead before a late-race caution flag. Even in a one-lap dash to the finish, Cardwell had a 1.457 second margin of victory to earn $1,357.

Jeremy Shannon of Wartburg, TN finished second in the Anderson County Nutrition Mastersbilt and Zach Shannon of Wartburg, TN took the third spot driving the Shannon & Sons Trucking Rocket. Polesitter Josh Collins of Knoxville, TN was fourth in the Knoxville Diesel Rocket, and D.J. Shannon of Wartburg, TN rounded out the top five in the Shannon Racing Special.

D.J. Shannon also collected an extra $500 for taking the Fast Time Award after he out-qualified the 26-car field with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.440 seconds. Tyler Dixson of Chattanooga, TN pocketed a $500 bonus as the Hard Charger of the Race after starting 22nd and finishing eighth in the Dixson Racing Special.

The top six qualifiers that also included Zach Shannon, Jeremy Shannon, Cardwell, Travis Sietsema of Crossville, TN in the Sietsema Racing Special and Collins went into the seven-lapFast Car Dash. Collins won the Fast Car Dash to start on the pole for the Main Event. In other preliminary action, Bradley Goodman of Spring City, TN won the ten-lap B-Main Race driving the Goody’s Power Sweeping Rocket.

At the drop of the green flag for the Feature Race, Collins took the lead followed by Cardwell, D.J. Shannon, Sietsema, and Jeremy Shannon. Jeremy and Zach Shannon ganged up on Sietsema on lap four to take over the fourth and fifth spots respectively. One lap later, Zach Shannon moved up to the fourth spot.

The first of seven caution flags came out on lap nine when Dixson spun in turn four. The necessitated a Dixie-Style Double-File Restart that saw Jeremy Shannon retake the fourth spot from Zach Shannon. On lap 11, the field was bunched up again after Donnie Van Winkle of Soddy Daisy, TN spun the S&H Erectors GRT in turn two.

Zach and Jeremy Shannon continued their battle for fourth on the restart with Zach Shannon getting by Jeremy Shannon to take the position. The Dixie-Style Double-File Restarts made to two and three-wide racing throughout the 23-car field. Joe Bray of New Tazewell, TN spun the Bray Roofing Rocket out of the sixth spot on the backstretch to bring out the third yellow on lap 14.

With race leader Collins in a row to himself at the front of the field, second-place Cardwell chose the outside of the next row with D.J. Shannon to his left in the third spot. When the green flag came out for the restart, Cardwell got hooked up on the high side and sailed around Collins coming off the second turn to take the lead.

Jeremy Shannon also restarted on the outside, and he got by D.J. Shannon to take over the third position. Caution flag number four was waved on lap 16 when Tyler Dennis of Dayton, TN spun the Gene Douglas Masonry Rocket in turn two. Second-place Collins chose the inside for the restart, putting the third-place car of Jeremy Shannon on the outside.

On the restart, Jeremy Shannon used the high line to pass Collins for second. A pair of caution flags on lap 18 for debris and on lap 19 when Christopher Braden of Oliver Springs, TN spun the Braden Racing Special in turn four kept the field bunched up. Cardwell led Jeremy Shannon, Collins, D.J. Shannon, and Zach Shannon in the top five.

Zach Shannon got by D.J. Shannon for the fourth spot on the lap 18 restart, and then moved up to third on the lap 19 restart, dropping Collins to fourth, Cardwell reached lapped traffic by the 25th lap with a 2.7 second lead over Jeremy Shannon.

With five laps to go, Cardwell had stretched it out to a three second lead, but the was erased with a lap 32 caution flag when Joey Bishop of Spring City, TN stalled the Fish Tales Mastersbilt in turn two. Cardwell, Jeremy Shannon, Zach Shannon, Collins, and D.J. Shannon lined up for a single-file restart with less than five laps to go.

Braden spun for a second time in turn four on lap 35, but the checkered flag gave way to the seventh and final caution flag of the race. Cardwell held off the field once again in a single-file restart to take the victory in the one-lap dash to the checkered flag.

There were 136 race cars in the Mountain View Raceway pit area has the Open-Wheel Modified, B-Hobby, 4-Cylinder, Thunder, Front-Wheel-Drive, Dwarf, and Powder Puff Divisions were also in action at the Rhea County Speed Plant.

Wayne James of Cosby, TN drove the Steve’s Heat and Air Lightning to victory in the 20-lap Open-Wheel Modified Main Event and the 15-lap B-Hobby Feature Race was won by Dylan Johnson of Dunlap, TN in the Johnson Racing Special. Ricky Harmon of Evensville, TN won the 15-lap 4-Cylinder Main Event in the Harmon Racing Special, and Scott Smith of Soddy Daisy, TN was the Thunder Feature Race winner driving the Crouse Automotive Monte Carlo.

Paul Johnston Jr. of Baxter, TN won his second straight 15-lap Front-Wheel-Drive A Feature Race in the Johnston Racing Toyota, and the 15-lap FWD B Feature Race was won by Ethan Johnson of Crossville, TN in the Johnson Racing Chevrolet. Jonathan Allen of Cookeville, TN won the 15-lap Dwarf Main Event driving the Allen Racing Special.

Felicia Goodson of Spring City, TN made a quick outside move on the last turn of the last lap to win the ten-lap V-8 Powder Puff Race in the Charlie’s Used Auto Parts CVR. Coming off the fourth turn to the checkered flag, race leader Serena Hampton of Athens, TN spun and flipped down the front straightaway and finished the race upside-down in second before landing on all four wheel in the Hampton Backhoe Service Monte Carlo. She was uninjured. Tracy Adams of Crossville, TN won the ten-lap Front-Wheel-Drive Powder Puff Race in the Adams Racing Chevrolet.

The final event of the 2022 season at Mountain View Raceway will be on Saturday, October 29 for the 3rd Annual Truck of Treat Race. The racers will be bringing candy for the kids. A 100-lap Enduro and a Crew Chiefs Race will be a part of the program. The other Divisions competing will be announced in the coming days.

On Saturday October 29, the Pit Gate opens at 12 Noon, and the Grandstand and Tier Parking Gates open at 1 p.m. Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection is scheduled from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 3:15 p.m., and Hot Laps are scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

Pit Passes are $25 for Adults, and $15 for Children 6-11. The General Admission and Tier Parking ticket prices are $10 for race fans 12 and older, and Children 6-11 are $5. Children 5 and under are admitted Free in all areas, and all Children must be accompanied by an Adult.
