Default Photos of Smoky Mountain Speedway's new configuration

In case you hadn't heard, Smoky Mountain Speedway owner Roger Sellers announced he was shortening the historic speedway to a 3/8-mile configuration. When the track was opened in 1964, it was a half-mile dirt track that eventually hosted several NASCAR Cup races. It was paved in 1967 and returned to a dirt track in the late 70's. The track was shortened to its most recent configuration of just over 4/10-mile in the late 80's. The track is a true 3/8-mile track with similar banking on both ends. Turns 3 and 4 were the ones brought in and will not have outside walls, but a gradual slope for a runoff area. The track is now 65' wide all the way around. Sellers hope to have a test session when the weather cooperates. Here are some photos of the mostly completed work:

Looks like they did a nice job on it from what I can see.

I thought Smoky Mountain wasn't bad for its size but think they have improved, look forward to getting over there this year. Money well spent.East Bay???? Great track, Smoky Mountain (new or old) is nothing like it.
