ABERDEEN, MS – As the Southern Thunder Series prepares for its first season with dirt late models powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine, several motorsports industries have signed on with the series as a Contingency Sponsor. The series is also in negotiations for sponsorship that include Title Sponsor and Hard Charger Sponsor.

The Southern Thunder Series welcomes Quickcar Racing Products, Dominator Race Products, Robert and Sons Aluminum, Advance Lazer and Machine, Boland Performance, Traktion Technology, Jones Racing Products, Willy’s Carburetor and Dyno Shop, Brown Engineering, RPI Racing Suspension, Swift Springs, and Total Custom Carbs as 2023 Contingency Sponsors.

“We can’t thank these companies enough for having the confidence in a start-up series that has yet to run its first race,” Southern Thunder Series Co-Founder Mike Boland said. “Robert Brown and I have received a lot of positive feedback, not only from companies wanting get involved, but also from competitors. We should have a good turnout of cars on March 4th at Whynot.”

The first Southern Thunder Series race will be on March 4 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS as a part of the Battle of the States Race. The first ever-race for the Southern Thunder Series for 602 Dirt Late Models will be a 25-lap race paying $1,200-to-win and $75-to-start race.

The on-track action at “The House of Hook” will begin with an Open Practice Session on Friday night, March 3. For more information about the Battle of the States at Whynot Motorsports Park, visit the track website at www.whynotmotorsportspark.com, or visit the Whynot Motorsports Park Facebook page.

Boland and Robert Brown founded the Southern Thunder Series as an affordable traveling series for competitors running the 602 Dirt Late Models. In addition to the economical Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine, they also have an affordable shock package. The Southern Thunder Series rules are posted on their Facebook page.

“We welcome additional Contingency Sponsors, and we are also taking with several other companies about marketing opportunities we still have available with the Southern Thunder Series that include Title Sponsorship and Hard Charger Sponsorship,” Boland said. “We’re also working hard to fill out our 2023 Schedule, and we hope to announce it soon. We’re happy with the progress we’re making after starting up the series last month.”

Boland said in addition to Whynot Motorsports Park, other tracks showing interest in hosting a Southern Thunder Series event in 2023 include Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, AL, Tri-County Speedway in Flomaton, AL, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The engines that will power the Southern Thunder Series Dirt Late Models are the affordable all-steel 350 horsepower Chevrolet Performance 602 “Crate” Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. The Southern Thunder Series will also utilize an affordable Shock rule with a claim option.

The Chevrolet Performance 602 powerplants are called crate engines by Chevrolet Performance because of the wooden containers that are used to ship the engines to Chevrolet Performance Dealers across the county, and then on to the racers.
