PERKINSTON, MS – Billy Riels Racing drivers Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS and K.I. Davis of Poplarville, MS were honored at the Crate Racin’ USA Annual Awards Banquet at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Dome in Lincoln, AL on Saturday night. Lee picked up his third CRUSA Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Championship in the last four years.

The title was the fourth $10,000 National Championship for Billy Riels Racing based out of Perkinston, MS. Along with Lee’s three championships in 2019, 2020, and 2022, Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS won the National WRS Late Model Championship for Billy Riels Racing in 2013. Lee was also the National Championship Runner-Up in 2021.

Billy Riels Racing swept the top two spots in the 2022 CRUSA WRS National Late Model point standings, as Davis was the Runner-Up to Lee. The “General” had 644 points with seven wins, 23 top five finishes, and 25 top ten finishes in 25 races. Lee has posted at least one win in each season since 2006, and also owns the record for the most career wins in the series with over 100 victories.

Davis came out of a 15-year retirement from racing to join BRR in May and competed in 20 races with three wins, 15 top five finishes, 20 top ten finishes to accumulate 629 points and earned $5,000 for the runner-up spot, giving Billy Riels Racing a 2022 total of $15,000 out of the series point fund.

The Crate Racin’ USA Weekly Racing Series was founded in 2006 and is comprised of weekly dirt tracks throughout the Southeastern United States to give drivers at each track an opportunity to compete for a National Championship. Over a 27-week season, a driver’s best 14 finishes are counted using a common point system.

Lee and Davis competed mainly at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday nights, and Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS on Saturday nights. They also made appearances at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Outlaw Speedway in George County, MS, Baton Rouge Raceway in Baton Rouge, LA and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

The race cars in the CRUSA WRS Late Model Division are powered by the economical 400 horsepower aluminum-head steel block Chevrolet Performance 604 Circle Track Engine that is built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. The engines can be ordered from Chevrolet Dealers across the country.
