Talking Unions can be beneficial to some ?

We were talking to a man that was in the Porta Potty rental business. He said that his rentals at union job sites are most lucrative for many reasons. The first reason is because at job that would take a regular contractor a couple of days to complete seems to run into at least a several months rental. They would also order double or more units than a non union contractor did. Another thing is that the union site has to have the deluxe units with the sink which is more profit. When the job was finally done and the rental company went to pick up the units there was porno magazines left in many of them and the occasional pillow and or blanket ! He said that when he pumped them out that many were full of more cigarette butts than anything which would suggest that there was a lot of rest time spent in there. The only dislike was that there were times that there would be beer cans in the tank. He laughed because the most popular brand was Bud Light ! !

The rental guy also said that there didn't seem to be a lot of toilet paper being used which would imply that the Porta-Poopers were used more for napping than #2 functions. He found out that it was better to come to service the units at 5;00 because everyone on the site was long gone ! If the man tried to check them any earlier, they would all be full and he would have to sit and wait and wait for one to become empty. He asked a nearby foreman that was lollygoogling in his truck what was going on in the units and he said " I think they're in there beating off" [whatever that means] ...

I just seen an advertisement for a union lineman and the starting pay was 49.60 an hour. 95,000 a year. Not a bad payday would you say.

In the real world, I know a non-Union linesman that makes more per year than your posted amount.

And the cost of living goes up everytime this happens so the citizens are covering the high wages. Thank us, for letting your unions make the cost of living go up so you all can boast! Yep!

A linman's job does have a danger factor not nearly as bad as it was when my father did that job. I still have the ole cletes he put on to climb the poles with. and the safety belt.

And it is downright nasty weather to work in a times.

We ran into that rental man last weekend. His son does some of his routes part time after he finishes his other job. He has some stories that he shares with his dad as well. He arrived at a job site 20 minutes after everyone normally leaves and he could hear snoring in one of the units. The worker started his suction pump to do a unit next door down and the noise woke the sleeper on up. The slacker came out of the Porta John and when he saw that everyone else was gone he started cursing up a storm. He complained that "I'd better get an hour of overtime if I had to be here for extra time". Talk about having your cake and eat it too ! !

And yet Lurker says he knows a guy that makes way more than that and he's non union. Do You think the citizens are covering his high cost job also or just the union paid employee's. lmao.

Yes the ole timers had it rough and it is a dangerous job. All the respect in the world for your dad and what he did.

Did your dad work high voltage or low voltage. High being the electric side of the utilities or low the Communication side of the utilities.

As far as the climbing belt Today they have the buck squeeze and if you start to fall it will grab the pole and not let you slide down the pole and get splinters, break a leg or foot. When your dad worked there they didn't have this safety feature

As far as the weather on my pole climbing test day in Chicago it was -27 with the windshield. When we were all done the instructor told us all if you made through today there is no reason you can't do this job. I've been super cold, super hot and soaked from head to toe in a rainstorm so, yes the weather can make the job a little harder from time to time.

Once again, you lose the arguement. It's apparent that, that non union company could afford to pay those wages without a unions influence. Just think, that union due money mostly went into paying workers higher wages without a union adding to the companies expenses by demanding their extra cut to pay the union. So costs were lower all the way around.
