Dennis Erb, Jr. Victorious in Illinois Speedweek Opener at Spoon River for $23,023 Payday!

(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) Dennis Erb, Jr. claimed his second feature win of the 2023 season and his biggest payday to date this year in the "Illinois Speedweek" opener on Wednesday, May 10 at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Illinois! Dennis timed in second fastest in Group A during Castrol FloRacing Night in America Series qualifying and later ran second in his heat race. After starting the 50-lap feature from the inside of the fourth row, Dennis utilized the bottom groove of the 3/8-mile oval to storm towards the front, grab the point with five laps remaining, and capture the $23,023 first place prize money over a top five that included runner-up Bobby Pierce, Jonathan Davenport, Brian Shirley, and Tanner English!

On Thursday, May 11 in a similar $23,023 to win program at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois, Dennis unfortunately narrowly missed out on the 50-lap main event after running fifth in his loaded heat race and third in his B-Main. At Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois on Friday night in the 'Farmer City 74,' which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and shelled out a $25,000 winner's check, Dennis snatched the second transfer spot during his heat race and later started from the outside of the third row in the 74-lap headliner that was pushed back to Monday, May 15 due to heavy rainfall. The Carpentersville, Illinois star quickly bolted up to the second position last night before ultimately slipping back to a seventh place effort.

In Saturday's annual 'FALS Spring Shootout' at Fairbury Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois, a $30,000 top prize was up for grabs with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Dennis stopped the clock fifth fastest in Group A during qualifying before placing second in his stacked heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the third row in the 60-lap feature, Dennis led laps 6-36 of the race and appeared to be a serious contender for the big money until heavy contact from second-running Hudson O'Neal ended his night prematurely. He retired shortly after the incident and was relegated to a very disappointing eighteenth place showing. “I feel like we had a good, strong week in Illinois,” quoted Erb, Jr. last night while pulling out of the Farmer City Raceway pit area. “We got a big victory to kick it off at Spoon River and we were in contention to win a couple of other ones. I feel like we had a great shot at Fairbury until O’Neal did what he did and then tonight at Farmer City, we drove right up to second and then just couldn’t steer as the track turned black. The good part is I think we’ve hit on some things and are heading in the right direction and I’m looking forward to another busy week in Iowa and Pennsylvania.”

The Dennis Erb Racing team has ventured west overnight and will return to competition with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America Series in the Hawkeye State of Iowa. Later tonight, May 16, a $23,023 winner’s check will be on the line at Marshalltown Speedway in Marshalltown, Iowa. A similar $23,023 to win showdown will then be held on Wednesday, May 17 on the racy 1/4-mile oval at Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa.

From there, the #28 team will travel east to the Keystone State to rejoin the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series. A $10,000 paycheck will be up for grabs on Friday, May 19 in the ‘Connor Bobik Memorial’ at Marion Center Raceway in Marion Center, Pennsylvania. Dennis is the defending race winner at MCR and will be looking for two wins in a row. The doubleheader WOOLMS weekend will then wrap up with a $15,000 to win spectacular at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 20. Dennis currently sits ninth in the latest version of the national touring series point standings.
