    Default Volunteer ceases weekly racing

The people that were leasing Volunteer decided to throw in the towel, partially blaming the keyboard warriors on Facebook for their decision. While I can understand their frustration, there is just so much competition for the entertainment dollars nowadays that if you can't run an efficient program people are going to spend their money elsewhere. Weekly shows are on life support in some areas of the country already, but you've got to have thick skin, start on time, and get the program done by 11 PM not 2 AM.

Hopefully Vic keeps the track going for special events only.

Nothing screams out "I'm a loser that can't run a business" like blaming customers.

Blaming social media is a cop out. People are catching on to bad business, it's 2023, there's plenty of other entertainment if you can't provide time friendly events.

I did a blog about how it's everyone's fault a track closes. I wrote it after Boyd's closed. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but some seriousness to it.

For the record, Volunteer is not closed. Vic still has some events he scheduled that will take place. If it's going to be a weekly track, someone else will have to run it as Vic is super busy with his engine business and still wants to race some.

Being financially responsible for weekly shows without the ability to make money from special events is just not a good business decision.

Proffit even stated that his family wasn’t welcomed from the beginning-said maybe is was a Kentucky thing. Sounds foolish to me. The family members wanted to argue with people on social media about complaints. That’s not good for any business in my opinion. They went as far as to close the permanent restrooms and used ports potties because they said the fans were stopping up the toilets!😀
Hope they return home and stay there. Maybe something good will come out of this because it’s 20 minutes from my home.
Hate that Ray Cook and the Southern Nationals won’t be there on Monday.

Some Social Media fodder indicated that the previous Promoter let people go, in particular the concessions people. That probably didn’t win too many people over. A manager/promoter has the right to choose his staff, but loyalty to locals is something you have to consider. I would not have wanted the job for sure… The track is awesome, I sure hope we don’t lose it.

Looks like Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals was the looser in this deal? Hopefully Ray will take this into consideration when making the 2024 schedule.

They had a rant on Facebook blaming anyone and everyone. At the end they said we are turning comments off so we get the last word on the matter. Well, that in itself shows the immaturity of some, you cannot run a business and get into p*ssing matches with people on social media, you will lose every time. Oh and by the way, expect to hear more, they never turned the comments off.

^^^ Maybe they need to stick with being a doctor and whatever else they do? Definitely don’t need to be in the racing industry- and the racing industry don’t need them to be involved.

It is all about who is running the track or any other track Ed turner ran that track for years great racing and no problems now it seems like nobody can run it.

You have to remember who had owned the track/property since Ed Turner sold it. It’s the same common denominator.

Did they shut the gates on that track as well or turn it over to someone else in order to take Volunteer over ?
