i was shocked that every race there that wasnt PDC had a very small crowd imo. i tuned into DV every time they were on & the crowds they had were miniscule in comparison.

I don't know of any track that consistently averages 1500 fans for a weekly show. Back in the day maybe but not in today's world.

Sadly you may be right. I know Florence Speedway has had pretty poor attendence for regular shows for several years now.

Some tracks are still having good crowds weekly, like Portsmouth, or at least they were for many years. In 2022 Portsmouth paid $2000 for LM feature winners. I don't know about last year or now though.

When Florence does some of their various promotional events for cheap food or tickets, they do fairly decent.

Portsmouth still pays $2k. Attendance was very poor this season, cars and fans.

Guys who run Farmer City for $1k, should love this purse.

This is a Late Model Purse at a track near me. I was really stunned.

Well that is true. But this does nothing to help the late model divisions continued decline.

Quite dissappointing considering this track upped the LM to win to $1000.00 way back in the late 1970's. $6.00 admission by the way.

Reality is, the purses can't keep up with the LM costs.

It also once had one of the finest fields of late models in the country.

Racers have also spent beyond their means and beyond the potential returns. They are drunken sailors.

If tracks can't get sponsors for more money then the gate prices need to go up. The problem is the fans don't want to pay what's needed for higher purses.

Would you pay 30.00 at the front gate for three classes= Late Models, A-mods and Hornets or Street stocks?

Probably not going to be able to have a good payday for those classes at 16.00 unless the promoter gets some good sponsorship money which is his job.

How about if they boost it up to 18 dollar and expect a pretty full grandstand or make it 25 dollar and get a moderate grandstand attendance ?

What a lot of folks don't understand is that more classes means more fans in the stands. At least
80% of the crowd is either family or friends at a weekly show. The more cars, the more fans.
