Default Full spool for 8 inch Ford

Does anyone know where I can find a spool for 8 inch 28 spline Ford rear end? Found plenty of 9 inch. Robertms

Is welding the spider gears not an option?

Are you talking the 8.8 or the 8 inch older rear?

Yes welding is an option and we already have that done. A spool will reduce turning weight and increase off the corner speed.

The rear end is an old 8" pinto, mustang ll. I have found spools for 8.8 and 9 inch. I want to think that someone put on a post that you could cut down a 9 to fit an 8. May have been just dreaming. Robert

no need to weld. you can get mini spools for the 8in in 28 & 31 spline. i have also heard you can machine down a 9in to work but have never seen one or tried it.

i think Robert is looking for a full spool instead of the mini spool to drop the weight of the stock carrier and spider gears and such.

Crazyhorse you are correct, we have the mini spools, and welded up ones too, but we are needing to lose turning weight. KMSA is so tough we got to keep working on it. I am going to Jackson Power Train today and see if the carrier bearing are the same as a 9 inch. If they are we may be able to buy 9 inch and cut it down on part that ring gear bolts to. Thanks Robert

I did by the 5 lb steel ultra lite tho.. $149... Alum may be a bit better.. If you can order the gear lightened, it will help.. I could have turned a few lbs off my 4.62, but I bought it without thinking bout it first..

Cut approx .740 off one side opposite the ring gear and the 9" will fit. The ring gear registar and bolt pattern are the same for 8" and 9". Be sure to get a 28 spline.
