Default Thoughts on Stock 602 Crate Distributor?

What does everyone think about the stock distributor that comes with the 602 Crates? Is it something that I could just upgrade the coil in and be good to go?

Also I plan to try the $150 Carter Fuel pump that they advertise NOT needing a regulator. Anyone have any issues with this pump?

    Thanks!

the distributor is OK-----we recommend pulling it out and having it gone thru by someone with a distributor machine.

however if your permitted upgrades it is recommended---(MSD)

not sure what fuel pump your talking about----do you have a part#

We run the same pump you are talking about and you DO need a pressure regulator. Those pumps are supposed to be 7 to 8.5 PSI. We were having problems with getting too much fuel in the bowls regardless of level and started wondering if the pump may be pushing the needles off their seats. We put a pressure gauge on the fuel log and sure enough we were getting 12 PSI. Anybody that messes with Holley's will tell you that is too much pressure. You need to be in about the 6 PSI area to maintain a good needle valve seal when the bowls are full. We installed a pressure regulator (Holley part number 12-803) and haven't had any problem since.
Other than the fact that it has the potential to push more pressure than it is supposed to, the Carter 60969 is a great pump for the price. What I really like about this pump is that it comes with the appropriate AN fittings on it. The cost of the regulator is less than what it would cost you to equip a comparable pump with AN fittings.

The stock dist is just fine, we have been running them for several years with no issues.
