I have a zip-tie tied to my throttle linkage that i stick inbetween the idle screw and stop that raises the RPM to about 2000. When im ready to idle down just a wack of the throttle pedal and the zip-tie removes itself. Works pretty slick.

Thanks to all for your input and help.
There were two things:
1) We were lean on the jets. As we started going larger the problem was not
as bad.
2) This from our good ole gas days:
My friend called C&S and we did not have the advance locked.
The distributor was put together by someone else and they had the springs/weights,
and we just never thought of looking at that as a problem.
Once they were taken out, the car idled a lot quicker.
Once started we can stay consistent at 2500-3000 and after a minute or two, the car can
idle.
