Sorry to correct you but Fulmer is his middle name. I helped build his early cars and worked with him for sometime. He only started using the James part after he left the mountains.
When i talked with him about doing the "Night Of Legends" deal i had at Toccoa the Story he gave me on Fulmer was it was a nickname he used so the Military wouldn't know he was racing. I will talk to him tomorrow and find out for sure. Either way though, he was one heck of a Driver.
Sometimes a night at the track doesn't turn out the way you want it to: I think (if my old memory doesn't fail me) that the driver is Danny Fergason (sp) and I won't go into the details of this crash but he was going for the win and this was on the front streach near the flag stand. The track got narrow at the top that night!
A small request Papermen, how about some pictures of Billy Thomas at East Alabama in the 70s and some of his son William at East Alabama now. Thanks in advance!
well guys i have no collection of photos , but i would like to say that all the pics posted on this thread are good and i like all of them , soon i will make a collection and post them here , i really love racing cars and i am a big fan of F1 , and Micheal Schumacher is the best racer i like.
It is Jimmy Kay driving a car prepped by Mr P B Broome of Rome Auto Clinic Whom Buddy Morris drove for and won a ton of races on the Tri Racing circut in the early 80s in the no 88 car in limited sportsman class. Mr Broome was quite a character who bore a strong resemblance to Kenny Rogers.Racing needs more men today like Mr Broome. On the Danny Ferguson crash that is me and one of Dannys brothers standing at the rear of car. The most amazing part of that is the car was still moving and Danny was getting out of the car and trying to climb into Mitch Fowlers car to have a chat about what Mr Fowler had just done. Danny was a very lucky man on that nite.
Yep, I figured someone would post a little more about the wreck. You are right, it always amazed me that Danny got out before the car stopped and headed for Mitch. Do you remember him sitting on the back straight wall at Rome?? I have photos of that too but can't seem to find them right now.
I may have stopped racing when that happened 1984 was my last year. I do know he got his back broke or something like that at Rome if that is the incident you are talking about.
well thats me in the pic with charlie. I think it was 77 or 78 but I won some kind of contest If I remember correctly.
I was the track photographer at Dixie at that time. I guess you have grown up a tad since then!! I hope you have enjoyed the photo through the years. I enjoyed my time at Dixie, Rome and West Atlanta. I have several photos of kids riding with the drivers during a prerace lap.
I will try to post a few along. Supper time, better go!
The photo of the Chevelle that Buck drove reminded me of earlier days and I wondered if anyone could tell me who was the driver of the cars that said "Swamp Ginny" on them. That was an advertisement for the Swamp Ginny resturant.
