350TH gearing question
I run in a pure street class that doesn't allow power glides on a 1/4 mile slick track. But rules allow floaters. I currently run a 350TH trans, 7.5 10 bolt with 3.42gear. The gears in trans are 1st 2.52 to 1, 2nd 1.52 to 1 and 3rd is 1 to 1. My rev limiter has a 6000 chip and I use 26 inch tall tires. My guess of top speed is 60mph. So I found a calculator that you enter your info in and give you rpms. I found with a 3.08 rear gear I will hit 60 in 1st gear just below 6000rpms, with a 4.56 I hit 60 in 2nd gear at. 5356rpms, and I have an option to use a friends floater with a 6.50 gear that hits 60 in 3rd gear at 5023 rpms. SO WHAT WOULD BE MY BEST OPTION OF THESE GEARS OR IS THERE A BETTER CHOICE TO RUN WITH A 350TH? Any help is greatly appriciated. Thanks

Not sure but i think around 4000. I go into the turns fine and thats when I catch up but coming out of the turn everybody else pulls away from me

What gear in the trans do you run?

By your calculations I would try the 3.08's although 7.76 seems like a ton of gear, but it's still better then what you have now, at 5.19. Have you tried shifting from 1st to 2nd at all? lol kidding this would be a handful on a short 1/4 mi.

Automatic 350 trans. 1st gear is 2.52:1. 2nd gear is 1.52:1 and 3rd is 1:1. I should hit second gear now around 4000rpm. Its an automatic

Does 60 mph sound too fast for a 1/4 mile track? Motor is a 355, flat tops, stock heads, lift, intake and manifolds

The track is shadyhill for those familiar with it

Same answer, if you are hitting 4000 in 2nd gear with a 3.42 gear. To get 6000 is a 7.78 final, a 7.76 final is 3.08 rear in first gear.

I now discovered that they make a 2.73 gear. Thats a final gear ratio of 6.88 in first gear hitting 60mph at 5323rpm. Sound better than the 3.08?

No, you need to be at 6000 for the most power.
